Hodgepodge, Mishmash, Patchwork...

I am a little bit of a perfectionist and I like when things "go together" which means my posts generally have a theme :-).  I have had such a busy, busy summer I haven't had a chance to update my blog so this will be a bit all over the place as I try to play catch-up!!!!

First up is framing. I've received two boxes from Jill Rensel in the past few months and as always everything is completely gorgeous.

Reproduction Round Robin

Blackbird Designs Where My Heart Blooms

Blackbird Designs Summer House

Shepherd's Bush Quaker Heart

And last but not least, the pièce de résistance, my Anniversaries of the Heart!

In between trips, my DH and I went to Tampa and Miami and I went to Breckenridge for a stitching weekend, company, friends from Germany and my MIL, and just the general busyness of summer I have managed to stitch a bit and acquire stash :-).

I've been dying to start Jane Tindall, I decided to do my own conversion to overdyed GAST, WDW and Crescent Colours along with the Gloriana Silks as charted on 40 count Lakeside Vintage Meadow Rue.

I also started Melicent Turner, what a fun piece.  I am seriously considering committing Sampler Sacrilege and changing the name and intitial.  I'd love to use one of my great-grandmother's names.

I love mystery samplers so it goes without saying I couldn't resist the With Thy Needle and Thread Birds of Feather piece.  I had a fair start on it and decided to change from 40 count to 35 count linen.  I love the WDW linen in the 30 and 35 count but I think the 40 count is a bit flimsy and I don't enjoy stitching on it.

On my "I want to start it now" list is the new Loose Feather!!!!  As you can probably guess I think mysteries are so much fun :-).  I am going to use 35 count WDW Parchment linen.

And wow if you've stuck with me this long, thank you!!!!!  I promise will do my best to update more often :-).  I hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying their summer.  I will leave you with a picture of my funny puppies and what they were staring at out the living room window, LOL.

Hugs,
Katrina

Great post, Katrina! I love it when you do a blog update. :) LOL at the pic of the pups--I think stitchers get the same focus of attention when there's a new sampler on the horizon. LOL Your WIPs are wonderful, as is the framing!! I think my favorite picture is the one of your two BBDs over the A&E plate and the LB basket. Love love love.

So great to have an update of all your beautiful finished and framed pieces! And to watch your progress will be great, too! We've seen our fair share of bunnies this summer too - must be searching for a cooler place!

What a wonderful way to start my morning...looking at all your beautiful finishes. Amazing.

I'm working on a few of these myself, but have no finishes to show. I especially like and respect your Anniversaries. Mine is only half finished. I need to get back to it...after I finish the new Loose Feathers!

Great work.

Oh, my--what a fabulous group of framed pieces, Katrina! I love each and every one. Your framing of Where My Heart Blooms is especially lovely. I think I would spend most of my day just standing in front of your pieces admiring them :)

Lovely, lovely work!

Wow, your work is just exquisite, and the frame choices set everything off so beautifully. What a peaceful environment you have created - it makes me calmer just to look at the pictures. I loved reading about how you personalized AOTH in your post below.

Allrighty, I think I'm going to quietly retire to a corner and faint... don't mind me, I'll be OK eventually. Oh, and congrats on all the gorgeousness!

Gosh Katrina! What treasures! The framing is too beautiful and is a complement to each piece. I particularly love the repro R&R. That's stunning! Sometimes R&R's look like a hodgepodge of pieces thrown together but this piece has a cohesiveness. It's a testimony to the thoughtfulness and care of all who stitched on it.
Love your post and the pics of the pooches. My cats do the same thing when we have an "intruder" in our yard! Thanks for sharing all your finishes and your wips. It's inspiring!

Gorgeousness! So many pretty things all in one post. I love love love all the framing, and I really like the way you've hung WMHB with Summer House - the two are such different pieces, but being both BBD, they look lovely together. Summer House is one of my favorites of theirs - one day I'll get my hands on that chart! And your AOTH - OMG so so pretty! Jill did a fantastic job on the matting and everything. You must be thrilled. Love your JT conversion, it's going to be lovely. And you've reminded me I need to get back to my Mystery Sampler too!

Beautiful finishes! I especially like the gorgeous mat on your BBD AoTH piece. Simply stunning!

Very nice WIP's. What a treat to come to your blog.

Enjoy your summer

Hi Katrina!! I haven’t been stitching much lately (mostly quilting) but every time I visit your blog I want to stitch so bad!!! :) You are a good influence on me. Your frames pieces look amazing holy cow! I love the Anniversaries of the Heart, the painting she did on the mat is awesome!

Katrina, Katrina, Katrina!! What an absolutely charming post!! Love all of the framed pieces you got back, wow! Can't even pic a fave, but I will say how very much I LOVE that frame for My Heart Blooms!!! Gorgeous!!!!

I haven't taken the time to read the comments, but I wanted to say from my standpoint, if you want to change out the names and dates on LHN's repro, then I say go for it! I believe that the only true reproduction is what the designer does. After that it is up to the stitcher, what they would like to do with it! Can't wait to see your 'changes'!

Have a great rest of the summer! Maybe one of these days, I will have a minute to update my blog!

And the pups...they look so cute gazing at the bunny! Probably good they aren't on the other side of the glass! lol

Gosh, what a great luscious post! Love all the framed pieces! I want to find my Summer House to stitch now...temptation galore!

That pic of your pups, it's like when my kitties are eying the birdies outside!

Love your stitching and framing too. I particularly like the BBD piece. Is the frame 2 different frames that were put together with glass between? I like the effect whatever it is but not quite certain what I am looking at. Do you mind sharing the details?
Also, go for the sampler substitution. I recently subbed my great, great grandmothers name in for a different makers name and DOB on a chart I have been wanting to stitch for sometime. The chart was old looking but I think it was an original design instead of a reproduction. I really love it better and is even more special to me now than I thought it would be when I originally thought about subbing.

Berit said...

I think my favorite is the detail on the first frame--so pretty! And of course, great stitching and stashing.

Go for it, and change that sampler attribution! :D

Katrina - what can I say that has not been said - WOW - your framing is just pure perfection - simply gorgous and I know you must adore each and every one. Your new starts are very exciting too and I hope you will make it back to post your WIP's as they are just your usual beautiful work. I'm bitten by the new LF - I hope to start tomorrow - I passed on the mystery as my mom wanted to do it and I don't typically stitch the same thing she does. enjoy the weekend

Wow, wow, wow!!!! Your framed pieces are beyond gorgeous!!! How wonderful. I think it is a great idea to put a family member's name in the sampler you are doing now. It is kind of like AoTH. Thanks for the update! Your blog is always a delight!

Katrina, I keep coming back and looking at everything over and over again...what a visual feast! You have some amazing treasures, I know you are proud, you should be! Give those girls a hug for me, they are precious! You have me really wanting to send my AothH to Jill for framing when I finish it. I LOVE Jane Tindall, that is at the top of my wish list. One of my guild members was working on it, I think her's is finished now. Great post!

Heidi said...

Hi Katrina! Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog. That little chart was fun to stitch up quickly. But speaking of great frames...wow! The frames you picked are fabulous. Do you ever frame things yourself or do you have them framed? I must admit I frame myself as it would cost too much to have it done here.

Love the dogs gazing out the window. :-)

Wonderful post Katrina. You framed pieces look wonderful and your WIP look wonderful. I always think that if a sampler works by having a name change to family name, go for it. I have quite a few that have name changes and they mean more to me than they would have. - Sandra.

Everything is gorgeous Katrina! I don't think I got around to commenting on your finished AOTH but it is awesome and Jill as usual did a fantastic job with the mats. They really compliment the piece.

What a beautiful repro band sampler - don't recall seeing it on your blog before but I just love it and the frame looks so good on it. Everything is fantastic and I'm sure you're enjoying seeing them every day on your walls. :)

I think I need to go off and plan some more framing!
