Stockings and This is the Day!!!

Woohoo, finally some finishes and a long overdue post! I had good intentions of posting more often this year but then time gets away from me. I also have the angst of "if I stitch for another night or two, I will have a picture with more progress", LOL. I definitely don't want to bore anyone :-). I would promise to post every week or two, but who wants to make a liar out of themselves. So I will leave it at "I really do want to post more often" and we will see how it goes.

I do actually have a few finishes to show off. I finally sat myself down and finished the filling in on This is the Day so it is ready to be framed :-). For those of you who have asked, TitD is in the January/February 2009 issue of Just Cross Stitch and the designer is Hands to Work. I should also say I used
Jan's conversion with a tiny bit of tweaking to suit myself. If you want to see the piece in the colors it was charted for, which BTW are gorgeous too, have a look at Siobhan's blog.

This picture is actually truer to the colors I used and the linen, R&R 40 count American Chestnut, GAST Pumpkin Pie ~ GAST Cidermill Brown, except for the sun, I used CC Finley Gold and Schneckey. GAST Roasted Marshmallow ~ Bamboo , GAST Picnic Basket ~ Crescent Colours Cocoa Bean, GAST Tomato ~ Crescent Colours Wild Berry, GAST Old Brick ~ WDW Red Pear CC Just Rust ~ Crescent Colours Red Currant, CC Colonial Copper ~ Weeks Whiskey, CC Camouflage ~ WDW Kudzu, CC Black Coffee ~ CC Blackbird, Weeks Conch ~ WDW Fawn.

I also finished the 2010 Shepherd's Bush scissor fob. I ended up finishing it by whipstitching the backstitched edges. Chloe and Sophie are tiny little four legged thieves who love skeins of thread, scissor fobs and coasters. I think the ribbon edging while gorgeous, would not stand up to the wear and tear of the occasional trip to the backyard :-).

I've also been having lots of fun with the Blackbird Designs Stockings. They are such quick stitches and the colors are gorgeous. I've made a couple of substitutions in the linen colors, I was trying to use what I had on hand :-). I am stitching all of them on 30 count linen and I've ordered several cuts of Blackbird Design fabric for backing. Of course, there's no way I am doing the finishing myself. They will be winging their way to Deb shortly :-).

Deer in the Meadow Stocking, December

Be Mine Stocking, February

Happy Birthday Stocking, with my Dad's initials and birthday, January

Winter Carnations, January

On the home front, my happy news is I've quit my part time job at the church. It was time, things have changed a lot for us over the last couple years, my parents moved out here, my DH retired from the military and took a position as a contractor, and we are on the verge of being empty nesters :-). I'd like more time for my parents and I want to do some projects around the house. I've been wanting to make this change for a while so I am very excited. So I have a huge list of things I want to do around the house and lots of stitching projects.

I've committed myself to finishing a few pieces over the next month or so before I start anything new. Paradise Lost has been loudly calling my name, I've been working on BBD Willow House for my parents and I want to finish my Blackbird project from the Dyeing to Stitch Retreat before the Shepherd's Bush Retreat in September. I thought it would be good to have at least one project done before I go to another retreat, LOL.

It's a gorgeous needlecase and pin cushion and I am going to try and figure out a cute motif from the design for a scissor fob. Maybe the vase with the flowers over one? There's also a place for initials and I am going to use my mom's for this piece.

I hope this post finds everyone happy, with lots of stitching time :-). Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on my blog!

Ok, now why did it take so long for my google reader to see this post? lol! Anyway, I love your TitD! And your stockings -- wow, so beautiful! I can't wait to see them finished! That SB fob is wonderful too -- you're smart to leave the ribbon off the edge for Sophie and Chloe! :D Yay on the job -- almost done! Congrats!

It's so good to hear from you and see all that you have been up to - wow, your needles have been very busy. So many beautiful finishes, congratulations!

How wonderful to have more time to do the things you want to do - I look forward to the day school is done and I can work from home.

Take care.

Lovely, lovely finishes. I love all your BD stockings - the colors are so soft and lovely.
Empty nesting has it's own challenges but it is fun when live takes a new route. Enjoy!

Well, now we know why you've been keeping such a low profile on the blogging front. You've been stitching up a storm. Everything looks wonderful, Katrina. Just think of what you'll accomplish now without a job getting in the way :)

Who-hoo!

Why do I now hear my TitD magazine calling to me loudly from my patterns box? Hmm? lol!

Yours is BEAUTIFUL; Thanks for showing a second pic to showcase the colours. Stockings are also lovely; never made any of the BBD stockings, I really ought to get one of their patterns!

Woohoo!! Yeay, a Katrina blog post. :) I'm always so psyched to see you have an update! Your TitD is FABULOUS!!! I love the original colorway but I also love it like you have it... b-e-a-utiful! You've inspired me with the stockings, too. I want a whole bunch of them around the house so really need to get stitching. I love their retreat project, too; it's going to be a gorgeous stitch!

Congrats on quitting the job. I know it's nice to get out of the house, and the money is always a bonus, but having lost my dad suddenly, I would give anything for some extra time with him. I know you feel the same love for your parents. And, bonus, more stitching time!! :)

Katrina, Thank you for the update, and all the information. I love that fabric! I also love this piece, I didn't realize that the design was in Just Cross Stitch magazine. I am going to have to see if I hae it here. My subscription has been a little flaky lately and I'm not sure if I have missed an issue or two. But I will see about getting another one if I don't have it here. I really do love the colors you used. It's been good for me to see your blog and get inspired again. I do love needlework, and I guess I am missing it now that I am seeing what you and others are doing. Life is still a little 'strange' and 'all over the place'. Can't seem to land on a routine that works as I"m not functioning the same . But it will happen eventually. Thank you for the encouragement, and all your prayers for me. God bless! And I'll look forward to seeing your framed TITD. Cathy

Ok, I know I came and looked at your post...but I didn't comment??? You TitD is gorgeous - I love the conversion you used. And of course how can I not love the stockings, that little December one with the deer is adorable. And I am in love with your BBD class piece - I want it!!! It will be just lovely and I think using your mom's initials is a fantastic idea (unless, of course, you want to use mine). ;)

HI Katarina,
I have seen your updates, and man o man, you are one prolific stitcher! You amaze me, seriously. I'm also happy that you are able to spend more time with your MOm and Dad and hubby! That's always a blessing. I had 7 years with my Mom before she died -- I stopped working and she started sick shortly after that. I had the privilege of taking care of her for that time, and I loved being there for her. She was and is such a special lady, and every moment with her was a treasure to keep! Your stitching is marvelous! I love all your stockings, and I missed so many of those charts along the way last year. Also your finished TitD Sampler is gorgeous! I just bought Paradise lost -- and am looking forward to getting it here to check out the materials list on that one. I'll probably use most of what I have on hand to stitch it though rather than kitting it with special fibers. I need to use more of my stash -- like most of us do! Ha! Loved looking at your photos -- lots of great projects and I'll love seeing those finished stockings too. That little Fob is darling!!! I really do enjoy working on small projects like that -- they are fun, and quick, and the 'smallness' of them really is sweet. Between small projects like that and making scissors fobs, I could easily get caught up in doing just those things for a good long while. Thanks for all the lovely photos...enjoyed them immensely!
